Anarchist Azat Miftakhov was arrested on February 1, 2019, on charges of « making explosives ».Tortured by the police, he was released on February 7, 2019, due to lack of evidence.
In Moscow a window of Vladimir Putin’s party offices was smashed in 2018. Based on two secret testimonies, Azat Miftakhov was arrested. On January 18, 2021, the Moscow court sentenced him to six years in prison for « hooliganism ».
The Russian human rights organization, professors, academics, mathematicians, and students from around the world expressed their support for Azat Miftakhov.
Released on September 4, 2023, upon his release from a penal colony, Azat Miftakhov was arrested.
He was convicted of « advocating terrorism » based on a case prepared by the FSB (formerly the Cheka and KGB).
On August 15, 2024, the Military Court of Appeal upheld his remaining four-year sentence.
